The tree remembers
In todayâs video, a Palestinian grandfather stands in the middle of what used to be his familyâs olive grove. The trees are older than his grandchildren, older than some nationsâgnarled, rooted, living history. Now the trunks are slashed, branches broken, fruit stripped. He tries to speak and his voice breaks. He touches a stump the way a person touches a gravestone. Behind him, the wind moves through the wreckage like a witness.
This is the West Bank in 2025: settlersâwhat I call the Israeli KKKâarrive with trucks and chainsaws, under the protection of soldiers, and destroy what they do not own. If they cannot burn a home, they burn a livelihood. If they cannot evict a family, they steal the harvest. It is violence disguised as agriculture; it is colonization one branch at a time.
The theft is the point
Listen closely in the clip. The grandfather keeps repeating the same words: âweâ and âours.â Our trees. Our land. Our olives. Under any decent legal order, that single word would be enoughâthe deed is in the soil, the proof in the seasons. But the system here rewards theft. Settlers cut what they cannot claim, pick what they did not plant, then sell the olives at market like the crime never happened. The cameras turn away. The paperwork disappears. The family is left with stumps and grief.
This is not a clash. This is a program. Destroy the grove, starve the family, force the move, rename the hill. Then call it security.

Because you deserve to see what the euphemisms hide. âTensions,â they write. âConfrontations.â No. In this video, there is no confrontationâjust the aftermath of organized vandalism, protected by a state that knows exactly what it is doing: making Palestinian life unlivable so that Palestinian land becomes available.
The grandfatherâs sobs carry a truth that policy memos never will: this is a slow-motion dispossession, and it is intentional. The trees remember. So should we.
