I watched it twice. The final minute is the best minute in a political speech in a very very long time. It has depth, heart, pain, pride, and hope.
I almost don’t want to ruin this speech by typing my own views on it here. The only thing I ask is that you watch it all. It’s less than 7 minutes long.
I think it’s the single best political speech of 2025 - maybe much longer than that. The final minute is one of the best minutes I’ve ever heard in a political speech in my entire life.
To make it this far, as a Muslim, who is about to be elected Mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani basically had to be the most talented politician we’ve seen this generation.
And it has meant that he has had to weather the most bigotry and Islamophobia of any politician I’ve ever seen - from Democrats and Republicans.

Stunned. While he may be speaking (in this video) mostly to Muslims and his own identity, he is speaking to every person who has ever been made to feel less than. It’s gorgeous. It’s humbling. It’s genuine. It’s important. May anyone ever othered come to the same realization that the light is where they belong. They always have.
