My son and I went to go see it last night and I'd love to share a few of my core thoughts about it with each of you. First off, as a superhero movie, we loved it. Now, on the politics...
Thank you so much for this insight of the movie Shaun! I'm very excited to take my child to see this movie he is only 9 but is very aware of what is happening in the world, he's very eager to see this movie as he loves superheros as any child of his age does but the fact they have added him to the correct side of history reflecting real life tragedy and corruption is remarkable!
What pisses me off is that most reviews of the film do not even address this and I think this aspect is very important in telling the story and more important than their generic "critiques" of "oh this film is overstuffed and doesn't develop its characters. Like who cares about that when this film is addressing IMPORTANT AND CRUCIAL TOPICS. I am a reviewer myself so it pisses me off that they're being snobby when they don't need to. So I appreciate this piece so much. Great read.
I went to see it for the CGI dog Kryto but was pleasantly surprised to discover it had a pro-Palestine/anti-settler colonialism message. Hooray to the director! Now we need to make it happen in real life — Free Palestine 🇵🇸 End the Genocide and the Evil Israeli Occupation!
i had similar thoughts while watching this, the minute they mentioned the two states i said to my husband “this has something to do with israel-palestine and russia-ukraine” i know we’ll never know if that’s what was actually intended but it felt like it was and if so good job to them for that. this piece puts together things i didn’t realize also like him being from a place where everyone was wiped off . even if it may not be what the directors intended i hope this is the takeaway for majority and that it does something good by raising more awareness in favor of our brothers and sisters in palestine
I completely agree. I saw the movie yesterday and thought the parallels were spot on and that the movie was excellent. If only we could have a real Superman come save us in the USA!
The parallels to Israel-Palestine are obviously there, though the movie makes Jalanpur purely innocent victims while the real situation is rather more complicated. But for a summer popcorn movie with a chewy moral center, that's probably the best we can expect. And at least they had no compunction calling out the corruption of "Bibi" and various entities that backed him.
I just wanted to say that I had zero intentions or interest in seeing the Superman movie, but after learning of these cinematic parallels, I definitely do now!
Wow... I didn't expect this film to be so relevant. A big Hollywood film is usually greenlighted many years in advance, so did Gunn change or update his script to reflect the current situation in Palestine after receiving the producer's go ahead? Good on him! Thanks for the review, Shaun, too.

Comments are open to all!
Thank you young man for your devotion and commitment on our behalf. Stay strong.
It's my honor!
Wow I am not a fan of superman perhaps because I am coming of age
and a woman, but I am going to watch this movie. For the past 100 years weve been fed lies and deception, its about time to re write history.
Thank you Mr King for your honesty and input.
And please keep up the good work
