This morning I woke up to the news that one of the single most brutal cops from the NYPD of the past few years, Officer Vincent D'Andraia, a huge man, was just given "restorative justice" and won't receive any jail time and will keep his job after assaulting a woman a third his size.
I have to be honest here. It's not that I am against cops getting restorative justice, per se, but what I know that makes me call foul on this, is that THOUSANDS of Black and Brown boys, girls, men, and women are STRUGGLING to survive RIGHT NOW @ Rikers Island here in New York. THOUSANDS. And they aren't being offered ANYTHING restorative. It's brutal in there. And so many of them are first time offenders locked up for crimes less harmful than what this man did.
So my problem is this - how is it that THIS MAN is getting restorative justice when thousands of others are being denied such a thing?
