He made it home.
Returning to America is bittersweet for him, I am sure. This place is so unjust, but it’s also home.
My brother. Our brother.
Chris Smalls — the bold, brilliant labor leader who helped lead the Amazon unionization movement — is back on U.S. soil.
And let’s be clear about what just happened to him:
He joined the Freedom Flotilla to break the siege on Gaza.
He was aboard the Handala, carrying baby formula and food for starving children.
The ship was intercepted by the Israeli military in international waters.
Chris was kidnapped, detained, and beaten — choked and kicked by seven Israeli officers.
He was singled out for the harshest treatment.
And now, he’s finally back — bruised, but unbroken.
This assault must not be forgotten.
Chris was attacked by a foreign military for trying to feed starving children.
He was treated like a threat for doing what governments should’ve done months ago.
And the U.S. government — as always — said nothing.
Chris, we love you.
You are courageous. You are principled. You are righteous.
And we are so glad you’re home.
Rest. Heal. Regain your strength.
And know that your voice is louder now than ever.
