Over and over again, Shaun has stressed the importance of district attorneys.
DAs are essentially the CEOs of a city's justice system. The absolute and widely unchecked power they have is nearly unparalleled by any other government official. They alone can choose to bring or drop charges against those arrested in their city, drastically adding to or subtracting from America’s grossly inflated prison population.
Only a handful of the DAs in America are good. The majority are power hungry and seeking personal benefits from the corrupt justice system in this country. While we work to abolish this system and build something new, we must simultaneously work within the current one to ensure it does not unfairly punish more than it already has.
This means we must fight tooth and nail to elect radical, compassionate and diverse district attorneys like Victoria Burton-Harris, who's running for Wayne County Prosecutor.
In today’s episode, Shaun interviews Victoria on why she decided to run, what her platform policies are and what work she’s already done to help her city.
