Last night, Democratic primaries took place across the country. While buzz over the presidential race tends to dominate the primaries, hundreds of smaller but still vitally important seats are also up for grabs.

Revolutionary new leaders dominated these elections.

Jamaal Bowman is one of these leaders. A Black man and lifelong educator, he beat his long standing conservative opponent for the congressional seat in New York’s 16th district, a battle that proved to be uphill every step of the way. The opposition from the Democratic Party was resounding. Not only did Democrats across the board not endorse Jamaal, but they openly endorsed his opponent, and it doesn’t stop there.

In states across America, Democrats are refusing to endorse the new wave of young, diverse leaders that are emerging, instead they are favoring the re-elections of established old white men that dominate the American government as a whole. Across racial, sexual and gender identities, these transformative leaders are exactly what the Democratic Party needs to bolster support from the young progressive generation that has become more politically active than ever.

So why is the party working to ensure they are not elected?

In today’s episode, Shaun breaks down why the Democratic Party is turning against these candidates and why it just may be its downfall.
