We’ve signed petitions, made phone calls and sent emails.
When the dust settles, the social media posts halt and the majority of Americans who have the privilege of choosing to ignore the epidemic of police brutality do, what then? Where is the lasting change that goes beyond a hashtag? In this period of intense mourning for the Black men, women and children taken by law enforcement, it can be hard to look beyond the present. The Black community has been let down time and time again by the broken promises of politicians who promote change in exchange for votes, only to ignore their own words once they come into power.
That is why Shaun and civil rights attorney Lee Merritt are launching the Grassroots Law Project, an organization combining the best of grassroots organizing with legal expertise to radically transform policing and justice in America. It is a hub for proposing policies written, edited and put forth to pass by a team of brilliant staff and volunteers.
Head to GrassrootsLaw.org to volunteer in a number of ways, including joining the research team, social media engagement, managing volunteer groups, or contributing any skills you believe will aid the organizations in achieving its mission.
