Nearly one month ago today, Breonna Taylor was brutally shot and killed by police in her own home as they executed a drug raid at the wrong address for a person they had already arrested earlier that day. Our fight for justice for her begins today.
Breonna Taylor. Say her name. Make her real.
Breonna was an EMT. She dreamed of becoming a full-time nurse. She was a first responder and an essential worker at the forefront of one of the deadliest pandemics in modern history. She put her life on the line every single day to save others, taking the great risk of contracting COVID-19, a disease caused by the coronavirus.
Yet, it wasn’t the virus that took Breonna’s life, it was senseless police violence.
Police raided the wrong house, in the wrong apartment complex, in the wrong neighborhood, in the dead of night, wearing civilian clothes, looking for a suspect in a nonviolent drug offense they’d already arrested earlier that day. Breonna, an innocent woman, a first responder and hero, was murdered by police in her own home.
They fired at least 28 shots.
In today’s episode, Shaun breaks down this grave injustice and outlines what we can do next.
