Elections are taking place every single day.
Early voting is happening right now all across the country, and it is vitally important that we take advantage of it.
In the many district attorney elections me and my team at Real Justice PAC have helped organize, early voting has played a key role. The Democratic candidates they fought hard to campaign for routinely won same day voting by a landslide, but were outnumbered by early voters.
Waiting until November 3 to cast your vote leaves huge room for error, especially during the coronavirus pandemic, where in-person booths will be more crowded, and mail-in ballots will see an unprecedented surge. It’s simply safer to cast your vote beforehand. Then, you can spend the rest of your time motivating the people in your life to vote as well.
Early voting is how we win elections, and it has already begun.
We need to shift our mindset from election “day” to election “season,” lives depending on your vote is in no way an exaggeration.
The rights of Black, Brown, trans, immigrants and millions of others across the country are at stake. The damage Trump and his administration have already done will be felt for decades, and we cannot afford any more.
The recent passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has caused panic for many, fearful of who Trump will appoint in her place and the injustice that will follow. Now more than ever it is important that the government positions we have the power to elect are filled by candidates whose values align with ours.
If you can vote, you have the ability to create the changes this country so desperately needs.
On today’s episode of The Breakdown, Shaun unpacks and explains the importance of early voting and how we can use it to make lasting change.
