Senator Bernie Sanders Denounces Closing of Philadelphia Hospital

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) criticized a plan to close a Philadelphia hospital, which dates back to 1848. The Democratic presidential candidate denounced the decision, saying it reflects the nation’s greedy health care system.Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia is set to close in the next 90 days, according to hospital officials. The Level 1 trauma center and teaching hospital, which serves low-income patients, was purchased by American Academic Health System in 2018.

Staff were told in April that 175 employees would be laid off as part of a plan to keep the financially struggling hospital open,

  1. This is a big part of Philadelphia politics. Being a Philadelphia resident I believe the hospital was purchased by the current owner for the real estate, not for health care. However, our city can stop this hospital it’s a historical site.
    In Philadelphia, all the poor are losing because of dirty and greedy politicians in cahoots.
    The plan was in place 7 years ago when the Investment banker purchased the struggling hospital.
    FYI all of city council is on their 12 paid weeks summer break the timing also was part of the plan…..
