The Break Down

Episode 159 – LAPD is framing people as being in gangs

Full DESCRIPTION:

PART 1

We are now six years into the Black Lives Matter Movement. Six years of exposing issues in America’s atrocious legal system, helping those who have been affected by it, and organizing around how we fix it.

But how can we tell whether any change has truly been made?

It can be hard to measure, especially when stories of police brutality are still being told every day, but the progress is there. One of the major changes this movement has achieved is the use of police body cameras.

This week, Shaun breaks down how the LAPD is framing random black and brown children as gang affiliated to harshen charges against them, and how one mother used body camera footage to save her son.

PART 2

The upcoming election is one of the most important in American history. Every single vote will matter. In this week’s episode, The North Star writer Nikki Rojas breaks down a case voter suppression in Wisconsin that is threatening the voter status of 200,000 people, and why this is so dangerous.
