Why I keep pushing. Why I want you to join me.
I want to explain myself - and my thinking - about a decision I often make as a writer - that may be bad for my career as a writer but it is good for my soul - which is eternal.
As-Salaam-Alaikum and good evening to each of you.
Tonight I am asking you to please consider purchasing baby formula for the infants and toddlers of Gaza.
I am so grateful that 2,262 of you have now donated, but it’s going to take over 10,000 of us to hit our goal. I am sure of it.
I don’t think any of the top writers on Substack interrupt their writing flow and journalism like this, but I want to explain why I will always keep pushing to support Gaza and support the oppressed people of the world.
It’s my calling.
I’ve been a writer since at least the 2nd grade, and I love writing, but my dear mother, a sweet country white woman from Kentucky, taught me to stand up for people even before I was a writer.
My goal is not information.
My goal is not inspiration.
My goal is definitely not clicks or views.
My goal is change.
I write for change. I speak for change. I organize for change.
So, I have a million and one news stories to share with you, but the truth is, that as much as I want to tell them to you right now - nothing, and I am so sure of this, nothing is more important to me in the world right now than making sure the infants and toddlers of Gaza do not starve to death and have a chance to live and grow and lead one day.
I am going to push as hard as I can for these babies and my hope is that while I push, that you please consider giving, and that you do not unsubscribe.

Thank you all so much for your support for these sweet babies. We literally cannot do it without you.
Your friend and brother,
Shaun
Thank you for showing up. Thank you for being such an inspiration. I have been following you at least 5 years and have always been a fan. I loved your book. I reference it often during times like these. #freepalestine
