White Supremacy Culture in the Creative World
I have been reviewing grant applications for arts organizations over the past year. There is a lot of outdated practices and developments even in the liberal arts world.
When most people hear the phrase white supremacy or white supremacist, a few images or ideas tend to come to mind. If you picture neo-Nazis, Klansmen, Proud Boys, burning crosses, racial epithets being hurled at people of color, Confederate flags, burning crosses, etc., it is very likely that your perception of white supremacy is relegated to the most extreme examples of racial hatred. But white supremacy as a cultural norm is much more complex in its manifestation than just a fringe group of Americans articulating and acting out their worst impulses.
