🧨 White House Says Israel is Lying About Hamas after Israel Bombs Themselves Then Unleashes Bombs on Gaza in Retaliation
Israeli tank hit their own unexploded bomb; Netanyahu Lied to Blame Hamas; White House Calls Them Out; IDF Bombs Gaza Anyway
Fact punch: A senior administration official told conservative reporter Curt Mills: “Hamas did nothing. Israeli tank hit an unexploded IED that has probably been there for months.”
Why it matters now: Netanyahu used the Rafah blast to halt aid, resume bombings, and blame Hamas — while Washington knew within hours it wasn’t a Hamas attack.
Moral clarity: When leaders knowingly weaponize a lie to starve babies and bomb civilians, that’s not fog of war — that’s policy.

What happened — and what the U.S. knew
Rafah exploded — literally and politically. Within hours, Israeli leadership claimed Hamas popped up from tunnels and triggered a blast. Aid was frozen. Bombings resumed all over Gaza.
Then the real story began to leak.
First, Curt Mills published the sentence that should end the argument: “Hamas did nothing. Israeli tank hit an unexploded IED that has probably been there for months.” That’s not rumor; that’s a quote from a senior administration official acknowledging the cause. If you’re reading carefully, it also means the U.S. knew — and knew quickly.
Next, Ryan Grim reported that the White House and Pentagon knew within hours the blast was caused by an Israeli settler bulldozer (or armored vehicle) hitting unexploded ordnance, not a Hamas operation.
He wrote that after Netanyahu blocked all aid and unleashed airstrikes, the administration quietly told Israel it knew what happened. Only then did Netanyahu signal that crossings would re-open “in a few hours.” But he has done no such thing.
Journalist Younis Tirawi added critical local detail: the incident had no connection to Hamas, and a settler demolition crew that had been tearing down what remains of Rafah drove over an explosive device, injuring two. He described a publication ban inside Israel — because openly admitting demolition during a truce would expose the breach. Those demolition tanks weren’t even allowed to be doing what they were doing. This is also clearly why no international journalists are still allowed into Gaza to document moments like this.
Put these receipts together and the outline is unmistakable: an Israeli force hit leftover explosives created by their own war, senior U.S. officials knew, and yet the world was told Hamas did it as justification to starve a trapped population and restart the bombs. That is not confusion. That is manipulation.
Why this matters beyond one blast
Because this is the playbook. Bomb Gaza into a field of unexploded ordnance, send demolition crews into that minefield, blame Hamas when something blows, and use the panic to cut off aid and re-ignite airstrikes. Then, once Washington says the quiet truth in private, tweak the posture without ever telling the public what really happened.
And here is the indecent symmetry of it all: Israel creates the hazard with megatons of bombs, then hits the hazard, then uses the hazard to claim it is under attack — while Gaza’s babies go without food and hospitals count the dead. Say it plain: the lie kills.
Objection & Answer
“Fog of war. Maybe Israel misread it at first.”
Fog doesn’t last after the White House tells you what happened. According to the reporters quoted above, U.S. officials knew within hours. Israel pressed the lie anyway long enough to suspend aid and resume bombings. That’s not fog; that’s intent.
“Hamas plants explosives; how can you be sure?”
Read the quotes carefully. The senior U.S. official: “Hamas did nothing.” Grim’s sources: unexploded ordnance hit by an Israeli vehicle. Tirawi: settler demolition crew driving over a device amid a publication ban. If Israel has exculpatory evidence, publish it. Otherwise, stop starving civilians on a story your allies say is false.
“Even if true, Israel has a right to self-defense.”
Self-defense does not include collective punishment or manufacturing pretexts to cut off aid. Starvation is a war crime. So is disproportionate bombing of civilians. The law — and basic conscience — don’t bend for anyone.
The only honest path forward
If you want to stop these “mystery blasts,” reach a real ceasefire and conduct a systematic UXO clearance of the rubble Israel created. That’s not charity; it’s the bare minimum owed to a people who have been penned in, bombed, and starved for two years while politicians argue commas.
I’ll say the quiet part loud: Washington cannot keep knowing the truth in private while the public is told a lie that justifies more death. Either we live by facts, law, and human decency — or we live by propaganda and power. Choose.
