I have been feeling angry and furious at being a powerless witness of the greatest crime that I have seen in my lifetime, the genocide in Gaza, but seeing and reading this story gives me a little relief and I share the sense of hope that these couples are sharing and expressing to the world. I appreciate the courage, the resilience and the defiance that they show to the world and to the criminal forces committing the genocide. We have to help them rebuild brick by brick their houses and their city. They are strong, may God give them a very long and happy marriage.
Thawb al-Farah — the traditional Palestinian “dress of joy,” embroidered in red, white, and green, the colors of a land the world has been trying to erase”. Ah these words hit deep. Beautiful and sad at the same time. Oh world, let Falastine live
Thank you for sharing this beautiful story, Shaun. It's wonderful to see the brides and grooms having a splendid time and enjoying their weddings in the midst of such apocalyptic, genocidal carnage. Their spirit, strength, dignity and perseverance are really amazing, mashallah. You're right, to hope and do things like getting married are a sign of defiance and strength in the midst of a foe that tries to crush your spirit.
I have been feeling pretty down and upset about the genocide and occupation they have been suffering through, but this gives me some hope that they will eventually gain their freedom and homes back iA.
Their quiet smiles, incredible strength and dedication to each other, to their community, to their Supreme Being puts me to shame. I have to figure out how to do more. Thank you for continuing to remind us of the suffering we have allowed/supported, and the thousands of human examples of devotion and commitment maintained in spite of the horrific actions against them.
I can’t quit watching
