We were at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic when we started the first season of Sick Empire. Thousands of New York City’s workers were left without a paycheck. Rent became a problem for a lot of people who never had difficulty with their rent before the pandemic. People without homes were left to suffer in deafening silence. The second episode of the first season, titled “Homelessness & Rent Tension,” investigates what homelessness and rent tension looks like in New York City during a pandemic with host Branden Janese.
