“The African American community stood up for me. You’ve always had my back and I’ll always have yours. America called upon us to achieve racial justice and root out systemic racism in this country,” Joe Biden affirmed in his victory speech.

This is a bold statement, especially coming from a man most consider, at best, a moderate Democrat. This is a specific promise, to root out the racism that has laid the foundation for so many systems in this country. Systems built and upheld to exclusively benefit straight, cis, white men. An overhaul of this system is not only fully possible, it is within reach. There are actionable steps we can take.

Now, the Biden-Harris administration has to take them.

They have promised to support the people of color who voted him into office. I want to believe they will follow through on this, but they will have to be held accountable. Right now, at this very moment, Biden and his vice president, Kamala Harris, are interviewing candidates to fill vital positions in their administration, and drafting policies to put in action their first day of office.

They have begun planning exactly what they want to get done, and we need to have a say in it.

We need them to commit to an actionable social justice plan that passes far more than the performative policies of the past. That’s why the brilliant team of lawmakers and activists at the Grassroots Law Project and I have created BidenJusticeDemands.com.

We have outlined 70 different policies the Biden-Harris administration can enact without a congressional majority, using an executive order. There is no excuse as to why they cannot enact them.

I want you to go to BidenJusticeDemands.com and read our demands. While there are literally thousands of policies that need to be changed, this is merely the jumping off point. If four years under the Trump administration has taught us anything, it’s that we all need to be much more involved in the making of the laws in his country.

We have to get involved early and let the administration know we are watching and waiting for our demands to be met.

On today’s episode of The Breakdown, Shaun unpacks this revolutionary social justice plan and what you can do to make sure it is enacted.
