After A Brutal Hearing On Monday Morning, The Oklahoma Pardon & Parole Board Voted To Recommend Clemency For Julius Jones
Just three days after the execution of an Oklahoma Black man was horrifically botched, another Black man pleaded to the state not to suffer the same fate.
In July of 1999 Paul Howell, a 45-year-old Edmond, OK insurance executive was carjacked and gunned down in his driveway in front of his two young daughters and his sister. A few days later Julius Jones and Christopher Jordan were arrested for the murder. In 2001 Jordan pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and testified against Julius in exchange for a 30-year prison sentence. Mr. Jordan was released from prison in 2014 after serving fifteen years, even though while he was incarcerated he allegedly confessed to murdering Paul Howell and then framing Julius for the crime.
Julius Jones, 41, has spent the last 22 years on death row for the murder and is scheduled to be executed on November 18th, 2021. Julius has adamantly denied being a part of Howell’s slaying. Julius has claimed that he was at home the night Paul was murdered and is being framed by Christopher Jordan. After exhausting all of his appeals Julius and his legal team were given the opportunity to ask the board of appeals for clemency and received a yes.
