On the Un-Severed Head of American White Supremacy
A prose piece on white supremacy as the snake that has poisoned a democracy for generations.
Earlier this week, the Jan. 6 select committee built this case. They pointed out a tweet that Donald Trump sent out in the middle of the night on Dec. 19. And this tweet, the committee said, was a bat signal for organized extremists all over the country. The tweet talked about a big protest in D.C. on Jan. 6 and ended with a flourish: “Be there, will be wild!” Committee member Jamie Raskin said that the tweet “electrified and galvanized … dangerous extremists—the Oath Keepers, the Proud Boys, and other racist and white nationalist groups spoiling for a fight with the government.” from the Slate.com article, “The Proud Boys Are Only Getting More Powerful”
A snake cannot die unless its head is severed. White supremacy has slithered throughout America’s timeline, fork-tongued with its head firmly positioned. This country has never had a vested interest in siphoning poison from those whose behavior stands in contradiction to its alleged creed. The truth is, nationalism is the creed. The sons of anarchy are its most fervent defenders. Occasionally, the serpent is punctured. Skinned. Captured. But, always able to recalibrate because its got a good head on its [non-existent] shoulders. White supremacy is the head that shares a heritage with the heads of state. Therefore, it is decapitation-proof.
No matter how much venom it continues to leak into the ecosystem.

Beautiful, Donney.
And like Medusa, once the head is cut, if the blood spills, there are many more snakes to contend with.
White supremacy is here to stay.
True! And we have recently seen how the snake writhes as if headless when threatened with simply imagined decapitation.
