The family of a 29-year-old Los Angeles Black man, Dijon Kizzee, commissioned an independent autopsy after Dijon was gunned down by two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) deputies in August.

The autopsy report, reviewed by CNN, revealed that Dijon’s body was hit 15 times, seven times in his backside, arms and hands. The LASD states that officers fired 19 rounds of gunfire after Dijon reached for a gun. However, several eyewitnesses stated that he did not have a weapon.

Furthermore, a whistleblower from the LASD office recently stated that it’s normal procedure for a deputy from that office to murder a civilian and justify it by swearing there was a weapon involved, but no weapon is ever recovered. Oftentimes it’s part of an initiation process into the LASD gang, The Executioners.

According to CNN, “The LA County medical examiner's office confirmed earlier this month that Kizzee died from gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.”

Homicidal law enforcement officers need to be held accountable. If more officers were arrested and charged and served time for committed homicides, it’s safe to say that police officers would think before they murdered an innocent, unarmed civilian.

This news came days before the heartbreaking verdict in the heavily hawked case of Breonna Taylor. I can’t help but think I allowed my naivety to take over in the case of Breonna.

I mean, if the courts didn’t deem it worthy to prosecute two officers who murdered a man in broad daylight, in the middle of the street, who they alleged had a weapon, I must be Boo Boo the Fool to think that they would serve justice and prosecute officers who murdered a woman, in the middle of the night, in the privacy of her own home, unarmed and undressed.

What will it take for Black Americans to live freely?
