The North Star has dropped its paywall during this COVID-19 crisis so that pertinent information and analysis is available to everyone during this time. This is only possible because of the generous support of our members. We rely on these funds to pay our staff to continue to provide high-quality content. If you are able to support, we invite you to do so here.

To commemorate the 99th memorial of the horrific Tulsa Massacre, The North Star staff writer Branden Janese reads a first-hand account of the event by attorney B.C. Franklin.

In 2015, an account from the 1921 massacre of hundreds of innocent, Black Tulsans committed by a white mob, which was supported by the police department, was uncovered in the archives. It was written ten years after the mayhem and it still stings. The most troubling matter is this ninety-nine year old account is eerily similar to the police violence against innocent people during the 2020 demonstrations — even down to the dates.
