I wish more Christians understood that Muslims, as well as sharing the ‘Old Testament’ prophets with Christianity, also revere Jesus and his mother Mary. (Jewish people of course, do not). The Qu’ran has a whole chapter devoted to Mary. Christians have far more in common with Muslims, than they do with Jews. No doubt this is something that zionists prefer to hide.

They have no idea. They truly don't. I hope to make this much more clear for people in the future.

Well said Ms. Lovell. The commonality/shared values between the two faiths are there, wish they were more well-known to the lay public and people at large.

It’s up to us to tell as many people as we possibly can.

agreed, hopefully we can help more people realize these similarities and educate people about them and improve understanding and mutual respect/tolerance

That's very true. Abraham is at the heart of all 3 faiths. This information needs to and must be made more common knowledge than it is now

Aamir Razak's avatar

Well said Mr. Thomas. Indeed, Prophet Abraham is the progenitor of monotheism and the predecessor of all 3 faiths, wish more people were aware of that and the similarities and shared values between the faiths rather than the emphasis on the differences

I took online classes on Islam and Hinduism offered by Harvard. It was very interesting - reading the original foundational texts. I found a new appreciation for the religions and followers of both.

Thanks for this article Shaun, I had no idea about the specifics of Zohran's Qurans chosen for his ceremony or the meaning behind them, but I find it really neat to learn about their significance to New York and the black, Muslim and immigrant communities that inhabit it. I am hoping he can do his best to make the city a more affordable and better place for people iA

I think the threads that unite us are cables. They are strong, ancestral, human. I hope our frightened neighbors and family will eventually take a deep breath and accept that what one of us truly needs so do all others. Thanks for the history, it is inspiring.

Tommy T should learn some American history as it relates to religious freedom. It seems that his education was deficient in that.

I also remember Lew Alcindor (Power High School and UCLA) becoming Kareem Abdul-Jabbar after he turned pro and started playing for the Milwaukee Bucks. Also remember Cassius Clay becoming Muhammad Ali and also Malcom X. How about Bobby Moore becoming Ahmad Rashad? Let alone Izur Danielovich Demsky becoming Kirk Douglas? Once upon a time there was a baseball player named Aloysius Szymanski. His manager with the former Philadelphia Athletics couldn't pronounce Szymanski so from here on out he became Al Simmons. How about Congressman Ellison of Minnesota using President Jefferson's Quran? That's about it.

What he did was Shirk and is contrary to what Islam teaches, the only being who we should swear by is Allah, not one’s mother or father or grandmother or uncle or dead friend least not the Quran only Allah

As always Christian - not a fake Christian like the ones in the white house - this article made my heart jump with joy! Wish I was a New Yorker & could claim Zohran as my mayor! His use of the Qu'rans was a beautiful & intentional sign to all the people of New York but America too! May Allah bless & protect Zohran!🙏🏾🫶☮️
