đ Jewish social worker, whose family survived the Holocaust, fired by Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, for saying "Gaza Must Live."
This complete crackdown on ANY basic level of support for Gaza is fundamentally outrageous

đĽ Claire Raizen: Fired for Advocating Life
Claire Raizen, a social worker at Manhattanâs Mount Sinai Hospital and a descendant of Holocaust survivors, was fired last month â not for malpractice, not for negligence, but for a small postcard on her desk that read:
âGaza Must Live.â
Not even âFree Palestine.â Not a political slogan. A simple affirmation of life. And the hospital demanded she remove it and never say it or show it again.
âComplying with this order felt like it was going to compromise my most core ethical values,â Raizen said. These principles, she explained, were shaped by the horrors her family endured in the Holocaust.

â ď¸ Hospitals Should Protect Life, Not Silence It
This isnât politics. This is the core mission of every hospital: protect the vulnerable, preserve life, advocate for those in danger. Yet Mount Sinai turned that mission upside down, punishing someone for advocating for human life.
Itâs so shameful. I have been to this hospital as a patient many times. Itâs one of the best hospitals in the world.
Raizenâs postcard was not visible to patients, only a few coworkers. Leadership called it âcontroversialâ and âdistractingâand demanded she remove it. When she refused, she faced disciplinary action and was ultimately terminated.
âI had co-workers that would come into my office and say, âItâs so amazing to know that this is a safe place to talk about Palestine,ââ Raizen said.
This is a moral failure. The hospital prioritized political comfort over ethics, over human life, over patient care.
đ A Double Standard Exposed
Mount Sinai has no issue with employees displaying political or advocacy symbols in other contexts: LGBTQ+ pride flags, yellow ribbons supporting Israeli hostages, or even expressions of solidarity with other causes. Yet advocating that Gaza must live â literally the defense of life â is treated as intolerable.
âThe active patient issues that I was addressing have all just been dropped with no opportunity to pass those off to a colleague,â Raizen said. âDisappearing from my patients without being able to do that makes me concerned about causing emotional distress to critically-ill patients who already have significant levels of depression and anxiety.â
The hospital punished someone whose very job is to care for the vulnerable â showing that fear of political discomfort has now overtaken even basic human ethics.
đ This Is Part of a Wider Pattern
Raizenâs firing is not isolated. Since October 2023, Palestine Legal has documented 286 cases of U.S. workers facing retaliation for speaking up for Gaza. From hospitals to universities to offices, employees are being silenced for advocating humanitarian life. Those are the ones we know of.
Key Takeaways:
Hospitals, universities, and workplaces are punishing advocacy for Palestinian life.
Raizenâs dismissal disrupted critical patient care, showing real-world harm from silencing humanitarian voices.
Speaking out for life â the literal mission of healthcare â is now treated as a punishable offense.
đĽ Why This Matters
A Jewish social worker, whose family survived the Holocaust, was fired for affirming life. Let that sink in. A hospital â whose purpose is to save lives â punished someone for saying:
âGaza Must Live.â
If we cannot protect advocacy for life inside our hospitals, what does that say about the moral compass of our institutions? Claire Raizenâs message was simple. Her punishment is shocking. The world should know.
