Within a single news cycle, the story hardened into gospel. Every network repeated it. Every politician weaponized it. And anyone who questioned it was smeared as a monster. Evidence didn’t matter - not even a little.

Israel’s prime minister called the attacks “a new Holocaust.” President Biden told the world he had seen photographs of “decapitated babies.” Major newspapers printed that women were raped “systematically” and “en masse.” Facebook executive Sheryl Sandberg filmed tearful monologues about Jewish women violated by savages.

But none of it — none of it — was supported by evidence.

Fourteen months later, Israeli prosecutors quietly admitted the truth: there is no proof that a single rape occurred on October 7. No witnesses. No survivors. No forensic evidence. No cases filed.

What remains is something darker — a textbook example of state-manufactured horror, amplified by Western media, designed to sanctify a genocide. And we are left to wonder - just how much destruction, in the name of retribution for mass rapes that never happened, truly occurred?

What Israel Claimed

In the first twenty-four hours after Hamas’ surprise attack, Israeli officials began distributing talking points through WhatsApp groups used by foreign correspondents. The messages read like pre-written press releases:

“Women raped, mutilated, and burned alive.”
“Hamas terrorists beheaded babies.”
“Pregnant women had their stomachs cut open.”

Those phrases were echoed — almost word-for-word — on CNN, the BBC, and Fox News before a single forensic team had entered the kibbutzim. The Israeli army staged tightly controlled press tours. ZAKA, a volunteer ultra-Orthodox “rescue” group with no forensic credentials, supplied most of the quotes. Reporters weren’t allowed to move freely, but they were encouraged to record ZAKA’s horror stories on camera.

By October 10, the New York Times was citing anonymous Israeli officials who claimed “dozens of women were raped, mutilated, and killed.” The story snowballed into an international morality play: civilization versus barbarism.

Netanyahu invoked “mass rape” to frame Gaza’s 2.3 million people as sub-human. “Hamas is ISIS,” he declared, “and we will act accordingly.” Nevermind that ISIS hates Hamas and vice versa.

The language mattered. Once the rape narrative was established, it became the moral cornerstone for the war. Every bomb dropped on Gaza was justified as vengeance for crimes that never happened. Polls showed that nothing angered people more than stories of mass rape or murdered babies - so Israel went all in on them both - again - evidence be damned. This is what worked to manufacture consent so they went with it.

A Perfect Storm of Emotion and Opportunism

Within days, feminist language was folded into the propaganda. Israeli spokespersons accused the world’s women’s-rights movements of hypocrisy.

“Where are the feminists now?” shouted Israeli UN ambassador Gilad Erdan, waving blown-up photos at a Security Council session.

American commentators ran with it. Op-eds accused global feminists of “abandoning Jewish women.” The hashtag #MeTooUnlessYoureAJew trended on X. The framing was brilliant in its cruelty: to doubt Israel’s story was to betray rape victims everywhere.

Meanwhile, inside Gaza, Israeli bombs were vaporizing entire families. Hospitals collapsed. More than 20,000 people were dead by Christmas of 2023. But on the nightly news, the moral spotlight stayed on a phantom crime scene no one could locate.

The Human Consequences of a Lie

I’ve investigated enough propaganda in my life to know that lies this powerful don’t survive by accident. They survive because they serve power.

This one gave the West permission to look away.
It gave Israel license to flatten cities.
It gave the Biden administration, and eventually the Trump administration, political cover for genocide.

And now, piece by piece, the scaffolding has fallen.

Haaretz, Israel’s own paper of record, found no forensic evidence of rape or genital mutilation.
The UN verified that the two most publicized cases were “unfounded.”
The Associated Press confirmed that ZAKA’s eyewitnesses had misinterpreted scenes disturbed by bomb squads.
And in January 2025, Israel’s chief southern prosecutor admitted there were no complainants, no victims, no proof.

The story that launched a war was built on nothing at all.

Why It Worked

Because the world wanted to believe it.

For decades, Western media has portrayed Palestinians as primitive, irrational, and sexually dangerous — the “other men” against whom the West defines its own morality. It’s the same trope once used to lynch Black men in the American South, to justify French massacres in Algeria, to rationalize British repression in Kenya.

And the Western press — led by institutions that claim to value evidence — swallowed it whole.

A Dangerous Precedent

By the time the fabrications began to unravel, the damage was irreversible. Forty thousand Palestinians were dead. Hundreds of thousands maimed. Entire neighborhoods erased.

But on social media, the rape stories live on — recycled by politicians who need the genocide to feel righteous. Even as Israeli officials quietly walk back their claims, the myth persists: that Hamas ordered mass sexual violence. Literally zero evidence of this exists.

That lie will outlive its authors. It will be cited in textbooks, in documentaries, in speeches defending future wars. Unless we kill it with truth.

At Shura Base: The Forensic Truth Israel Buried

When the dust settled from October 7, most of the victims’ bodies — Israeli and Palestinian — were brought to Shura Base, a military compound near Ramle, for identification. It was there that the real record began — and where the rape narrative should have died on the spot.

According to a meticulous Haaretz investigation by Liza Rozovsky published in April 2024, only five forensic pathologists were assigned to examine the hundreds of bodies brought from the kibbutzim and the Nova festival. Their task wasn’t political. It was scientific. They examined every body that arrived naked or partially clothed, specifically to test whether sexual violence had taken place.

And the result was unambiguous.

“There were no signs on any of those bodies attesting to sexual relations having taken place or of mutilation of genitalia.”

Others were simply unrecognizable — burned or decomposed. That meant the physical record of what actually happened on October 7 was sealed forever within hours.

And that is exactly how propaganda thrives — in the absence of verifiable truth.

The Forgotten Night of the Nova Festival

According to a source familiar with the official Israeli investigation, six police forensic teams — twelve officers in total — were sent to the Nova festival site during the night between October 7 and 8. They worked under Israeli airstrikes, literally while Apache helicopters fired volleys overhead. Their work was narrow: photograph the faces, cover the victims, and prepare them for evacuation.

They documented more than 200 bodies that night.

“These teams did not document a single case of sexual assault or of genital mutilation,” Haaretz wrote. “They did see women whose throats had been cut, and men on whom ‘confirmation of kill’ had been carried out at close range.”

That sentence should have been front-page news in every Western outlet. Instead, it was ignored. Because it destroyed the most emotionally potent element of Israel’s story — the image of women defiled and murdered by savages. What investigators actually saw were men and women shot, burned, and executed — most likely amid the chaos of the IDF’s own “Hannibal Directive,” which instructs soldiers to kill rather than risk hostages being taken alive.

But no one in Western media wanted to talk about that. Rape made better copy.

The UN Steps In — and Finds Nothing

By March 2024, Israel’s story had started to unravel badly enough that the United Nations sent its Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Pramila Patten, to conduct an independent review. Israel cooperated — but selectively. Her team was escorted to a few sanitized locations and fed the same material already circulating through Israeli government press briefings.

What Patten’s team found was devastating to Israel’s narrative.

“In the medicolegal assessment of available photos and videos, no tangible indications of rape could be identified,” the report concluded.

Not a single photograph or video verified any act of sexual violence. The UN team also wrote that “no digital evidence specifically depicting acts of sexual violence was found in open sources.” In other words: the hours of footage Israel claimed to have showing mass rape simply didn’t exist.

Even more shocking, the report revealed that Israeli officials altered at least one crime scene. The infamous case of the “girl found naked from the waist down” at Kibbutz Be’eri turned out to be an artifact of a bomb-squad sweep — the bodies had been moved by Israeli forces themselves. What was later touted as “proof of rape” was, in fact, a rearranged scene.

“It was determined by the mission team that the crime scene had been altered by a bomb squad and the bodies moved,” the UN report said plainly.

That one sentence undoes months of Western headlines, press conferences, and televised moral theater. That case of “rape” was loudly mentioned countless times all over the world. The correction was given a whisper.

ZAKA’s Lies and Haaretz’s Corrections

The main source for nearly every sensational Israeli claim was a private Orthodox volunteer group called ZAKA. Its members were not forensic experts, not investigators, not police. They were volunteers tasked with collecting human remains in accordance with Jewish law. But in the chaos of October 7, they became Israel’s most visible “witnesses.”

ZAKA’s commander, Chaim Otmazgin, said he found a teenage girl in Be’eri with her pants pulled down and concluded she had been raped. That story went viral. He wept on Israeli television. His testimony was cited by international reporters, repeated by the New York Times, and included in UN briefings.

Months later, Otmazgin himself admitted he was wrong. Israeli army sappers had moved the bodies. In the process, the girl’s clothing was pulled down. Haaretz issued a correction. The Association of Rape Crisis Centers in Israel retracted its report. But by then, the lie had circled the globe.

Another ZAKA volunteer, Yossi Landau, told the world he saw a pregnant woman whose fetus had been cut out. That story was even more grotesque — and equally false. No such woman existed. The United Nations later described the claim as “unfounded.”

The truth was simple: these men were either lying maliciously - which is what I believe - and nothing else they say should be believed. Or perhaps, as some experts have suggested, they were traumatized, untrained, and thrust before cameras. Their stories, born in shock, were seized by a government desperate for justification.

But the journalists who printed them — those were conscious choices.

The Associated Press Admits the Chaos

In January 2024, even the Associated Press — one of the outlets that first repeated ZAKA’s accounts — published a rare mea culpa. In a long investigation from Jerusalem, AP reporters verified that both of ZAKA’s sexual-violence claims were false. They interviewed Otmazgin, Landau, and their colleagues, confirming that they had made “mistakes” in chaotic conditions.

“It’s not that I invented a story,” Otmazgin told them. “I couldn’t think of any other option. At the end, it turned out to be different, so I corrected myself.”

AP’s report detailed how no forensic protocols were followed that day. ZAKA moved bodies. Soldiers dragged corpses. Volunteers took photographs on personal phones. Forensic evidence wasn’t preserved — not out of malice, they say, but out of total disorder.

And yet, that confusion was precisely what Israel’s public-relations machine needed. Because it allowed every unverified horror to be treated as fact — before anyone could check it.

The Haunting Absence of Victims

The deepest truth here isn’t hidden in the data. It’s in the silence.
The UN, the Israeli police, the prosecutors — none have found a single survivor of sexual assault from October 7. Not one woman has come forward, publicly or anonymously.

As Israeli prosecutor Moran Gaz said months later, “We have no complainants.”

In any other context, that sentence would end the conversation. But in Israel’s war propaganda, absence becomes evidence. The missing women are presumed dead, the silence itself spun as proof of trauma.

The evidence shows that Israeli Apache helicopters dropped hundreds and hundreds of bombs and missiles everywhere - so much so that volunteers couldn’t tell who was Palestinian and who was Israeli. Israel’s propaganda didn’t fill a void of evidence — it created it.

What This Means

If the forensic reality at Shura Base, the UN’s findings, and the AP’s corrections all align, one conclusion is unavoidable: the claim of mass rape was a fabrication.

It was not an error of translation or a misunderstanding under fire. It was a calculated campaign — seeded by the state, amplified by Western media, and protected by silence.

And every government that repeated it bears moral responsibility for the blood that followed.

The Collapse of the Narrative

The UN and the Grayzone Expose the Myth

By spring 2024, the cracks in Israel’s story had become canyons.
The Grayzone obtained and published direct quotes from the UN’s fact-finding mission showing that no verified cases of rape or sexual assault were found anywhere in Israel on October 7.

UN investigators reviewed thousands of photographs, videos, and testimonies supplied by the Israeli army, police, and intelligence agencies. They also examined “open-source material” — the same social media clips Israeli officials claimed showed rape.

“In the medicolegal assessment of available photos and videos, no tangible indications of rape could be identified,” the report concluded.
“No digital evidence specifically depicting acts of sexual violence was found in open sources.”

And when Israeli officials tried to pass off one particularly gruesome photo — a grainy image allegedly showing “nails inserted into a woman’s groin” — investigators determined that even that picture was inconclusive and likely misinterpreted.

Patten’s team also noted a more disturbing fact: the UN mission had been sent to Israel under pressure from Israeli government-linked lobbying groups. She said so openly at a press conference.

The mission wasn’t investigative in nature, she admitted; it was a “fact-finding exercise based on information provided by Israel.”

That single statement detonated the heart of Israel’s credibility.
It meant the UN team had been escorted, scripted, and curated — and still found no proof.

Associated Press Joins the Correction

The Associated Press, after months of reprinting the Israeli line, finally reversed itself.
In its January 2024 investigation, AP reporters confirmed that ZAKA’s two most viral stories — the “pants-down teenager” and the “pregnant woman with a fetus cut out” — were false.

“Another case in the same kibbutz involved a mistaken report of a location there as the scene of sexual assault,” AP wrote.
“After cross-checking with military contacts, ZAKA found that a group of soldiers had dragged the girl’s body across the room to make sure it wasn’t booby-trapped. During the procedure, her pants had come down.”

Even Israel’s own officials later confirmed to Haaretz that the pregnant-woman story had been fabricated, traced to one traumatized volunteer’s misperception in the middle of a war zone.

The same ZAKA men who were once treated as eyewitnesses on CNN were now conceding on the record that they’d gotten it wrong.

The effect should have been catastrophic for Israel’s credibility. But the Western media simply moved on. No corrections. No retractions. No accountability.

Because the myth had already done its work.

Israel’s Prosecutor Finally Admits It

The final nail in the coffin came in January 2025, when Moran Gaz, head of Israel’s Southern Prosecutor’s Office, spoke candidly to Ynet News. After fourteen months of investigation, she said her office had no evidence of sexual assault. None.

“In the end, we have no complainants,” Gaz said. “We contacted women’s rights organizations and asked for cooperation. They told us that they simply did not contact them.”

Not one survivor. Not one medical record. Not one forensic match.

Gaz’s admission, coming from a prosecutor who openly despises Hamas, was extraordinary. If there had been any proof — any credible victim — she would have built the case herself.

This was the moment the world should have paused. But the major papers — including The New York Times, Washington Post, and BBC — didn’t even cover Gaz’s statement.

First came Haaretz’s forensic debunking.

Then the AP’s reluctant correction.

And yet, every government that used those lies to justify mass murder in Gaza — from Washington to London to Berlin — simply refused to look back.

Instead, they doubled down on the mythology: that even if the “details” were wrong, the “spirit” of the story was true.

That’s how propaganda becomes sacred.
It ceases to be a claim; it becomes an identity.

The Media Machine That Made It Real

The New York Times’ Original Sin

If the Israeli government planted the lie, The New York Times watered it and helped it grow to unimaginable heights.

Its December 28, 2023 front-page investigation — “‘Screams Without Words’: How Hamas Weaponized Sexual Violence on Oct. 7” — became the crown jewel of Israeli propaganda.

The piece was co-written by Jeffrey Gettleman, a Pulitzer Prize-winning correspondent, and Anat Schwartz, a freelancer with no reporting background — and a former intelligence operative for the Israeli Air Force.

Within weeks, Schwartz’s social media activity surfaced: she had liked posts calling Palestinians “animals” and urging Israel to “turn Gaza into a slaughterhouse.”

Even worse, Schwartz later confessed in a Channel 12 podcast that she had called every sexual-assault crisis center in Israel — and every one of them told her no victims had come forward.

“First thing, I called them all,” Schwartz said. “They told me, ‘No, no complaint of sexual assault was received.’”

Yet the Times still published the story.

It claimed to have found “evidence that sexual violence was systematic.” It provided no forensic proof, no named victims, and only one dubious eyewitness — Raz Cohen, whose story had already been contradicted in other outlets.

Schwartz admitted that the editors “never doubted” her. The only question they asked, she said, was: “How can it be that there is no documentation?”

The answer, according to Israeli officials she interviewed, was chilling in its simplicity:

“There is nothing. There was no collection of evidence from the scene.”

And still, the Times ran the piece — because it aligned with the war Israel needed and the story America wanted.

Internal Revolt and Public Silence

Inside The New York Times, the backlash was immediate.
Producers at The Daily — the paper’s flagship podcast — refused to air a planned episode based on the article. Reporters called the piece “Caliphate 2.0,” referencing a previous Pulitzer-finalist that the paper had to retract for fabrication.

According to The Intercept, Times staff described the rape investigation as a “failure of editorial decision-making” that “undermined all the other good work being done.”

But management doubled down.
International editor Phil Pan said he “stood by the reporting.”
Gettleman went on to share a stage with Hillary Clinton and Linda Thomas-Greenfield at Columbia University, promoting “conflict-related sexual violence” — as if his discredited story were scripture.

When asked why evidence mattered so little, Gettleman answered:

“I don’t want to even use the word ‘evidence,’ because that’s almost like a legal term. My role is to present information and make people care.”

The Feminist PR Offensive

While the Times framed mass rape as the moral center of the war, Silicon Valley executive Sheryl Sandberg turned it into a full-blown media campaign.

Her 2024 documentary, “Screams Before Silence,” was screened at the White House and praised by Vice President Kamala Harris, who declared, “We cannot look away — and we will not be silent.”

It was an extraordinary moment of inversion: the language of Me Too — born to protect women from violence — being used to rationalize the carpet-bombing of Gaza.

In Israel’s hands, feminism became a weapon of war.
Rape became rhetoric.
Silence became complicity — unless it was silence about the tens of thousands of Palestinians raped, tortured, or murdered by Israel itself.

The entire movement of survivor-centered activism was flipped on its head to serve a colonial script: that Arab men are beasts and Jewish women need saving by military force.

That narrative didn’t just stain feminism. It weaponized it.

When Lies Become Identity

By early 2025, the “mass rape” story had lost every shred of factual support — but it had already entered the bloodstream of Western identity politics.

To question it became heresy.
To fact-check it became antisemitism.
And to expose it, as Haaretz and others did, became treason.

This is how empires sustain themselves: not with truth, but with unquestionable myth.

And the greatest myth of all is that Israel, the self-declared “light unto nations,” needed no evidence to justify its darkness.

The IDF’s massive response — tanks, grenades, heavy weaponry — burned entire kibbutzim to the ground. Later, when forensics teams arrived, they found burned corpses and mangled limbs and told the world that Hamas had mutilated their victims.

They were half right.
The bodies were mutilated — by Israeli munitions.

That’s not an opinion. It’s the only explanation consistent with the evidence Israel refuses to release: autopsies, bullet trajectories, and the suppressed body-cam footage of IDF soldiers shooting civilians who begged for help.

Israel didn’t need Hamas to look barbaric. It just needed to kill enough people that the world stopped asking who pulled the trigger.

The Silence of the Powerful

Even as the evidence collapsed, Western leaders stayed locked in the script.
President Biden repeated Israel’s talking points from October through December, telling donors, “We saw the women raped, their bodies mutilated.”
Not once did he correct himself.
Not once did the White House apologize for spreading a lie that helped kill tens of thousands of people.

When the Israeli prosecutor finally admitted there were no known victims, the silence from Washington, London, and Brussels was deafening.

The same governments that demand “evidence” before recognizing a genocide in Gaza demanded none at all before endorsing Israel’s story of mass rape.

It was faster. Sharper. Better funded. And it used the most sacred thing in the world — women’s pain — as a weapon of war.

That’s why this moment is so dangerous.
Because if they can take the language of feminism — the hard-won truth that women’s bodies matter — and twist it into a license for mass murder, there is no limit to what they can justify next.

They did it in Gaza. They’ve done it in Lebanon, Iran, Yemen, Syria, and more. They’ll do it anywhere the empire needs an enemy.

The Moral Reckoning

Two years later, not a single woman has stepped forward to say, “It happened to me.”
Not one.
The only voices belong to propagandists and politicians — the same men who weaponized that silence to carpet-bomb an entire people.

The Quran says: “And do not mix the truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you know it.”
That command isn’t theological. It’s moral.
We owe it to every life lost in Gaza — and to every reader who trusted us — to separate truth from spectacle.

The World After the Lie

So what happens now?
What happens when a nation built on myth finally runs out of stories to tell?

Maybe the answer is already unfolding.
Across the world, people are turning away from the institutions that lied to them. Journalists are resigning in protest. Students are filling the streets. Ordinary people are saying what presidents and prime ministers still won’t:
Israel lied. The West helped. And the price was genocide.

And somewhere, in the ruins of Gaza, a mother is burying her child under rubble paid for by our silence.

We cannot undo her grief. But we can refuse to let the world call her son a terrorist. We can tell the truth — loudly, relentlessly, until the last lie crumbles.

The Reckoning

Israel’s propaganda machine built this genocide on a story that began with women’s bodies.
Now it’s ending with their own prosecutor’s words:

“In the end, we have no complainants.”

That sentence should echo through every newsroom on earth. It should be carved above the door of every government that claimed to care about truth.

Because forty thousand people are dead.
And the lie that killed them started with a headline.

This truth costs courage.
