We are in a full-blown totalitarian police state dressed up as a free and noble patriotic democracy. The coming years will be a social, political, and economic meatgrinder replete with mass arrests, street riots, and state sanctioned executions by highly paid masked goon squads. Imagine if China, say, or North Korea decided that a boat of American fishermen, or Japanese fishermen, or Filipino fishermen in the high seas were Western spies on their way to China (even if the boats were going in the other direction), and without bothering to investigate, they simply blew them out of the water and labeled/libeled them as terrorists, and bragged about having defeated a Western "plot" — and then repeatedly shelled foreign boats full of fishermen or other innocent civilians with the same rationale and post-attack braggaddocio. What would the U.S. be doing then? What would the U.S. media be calling it?
This is not just murder; it's defined as terrorism under international law: terrorism, mass murder, and serial murder. Trump and all the decision makers in his chain of command should, under the Nuremberg rules, be hanged.
And with the disgraceful Saddam spectacle as precedent, it should be public and broadcast world wide.
The only reason Venezuela allowed itself to be bullied, and didn't retaliate against U.S. ships (aside from the fact that it's a civilized country, unlike the U.S.) is that it's weak and small. That's also why Trump chose it as a target for his performatory, murderous ego trip.
