America is a 246-year-old baby. A toddler in its independence when compared to civilizations thousands of years its senior. America began as a rebellion. A fitful child throwing a freedom tantrum despite the irony of enslaving and stealing land and humans. America is the result of rapid overdevelopment. A child that grew strong and mighty but still has not fully matured. Geography of raging hormones. When we talk about the repeated lessons we have to teach America about itself, it is us recognizing that America is a hard-headed child. Mostly spoiled, mostly entitled, often ungrateful. A child that hoards the resources of its peers, claims those toys as its own and bullies dissenting voices to death. We will likely not live to see a fully matured America, but we have the responsibility to train up this child in the way it should go. If not for the sake of its development, for our babies who will inherit it.
