A Palestinian elder was brutally beaten in the West Bank by a gang of masked Israeli settlers. In the horrific footage above, you can see him bent over, unable to protect himself, as multiple attackers kick him, strike him, and beat him with a club. It’s like Rodney King all over again.

According to reporting, this attack took place near Nablus in the village of Deir Sharaf, and local officials said it took Israeli forces over an hour to disperse the attackers.

This was not a “clash.”

This was not a “scuffle.”

This was not “two sides.”

This was an Israeli gang assault — masked, confident, and violent — carried out on camera against a Palestinian man who posed no threat.

Reports state that three Palestinians were wounded and cars were torched in this attack. The Palestinian Authority’s official news agency, WAFA, say a 65-year-old man (who I believe is who we see in this video) suffered a broken arm and two others had bruises. It also quotes a local mayor, Hussein Hammadi of the nearby village of Beit Lid, telling AFP that “a deaf person was seriously injured” and that three cars were set on fire. I have confirmed that the victim in this video is indeed the deaf person that was seriously injured.

Security camera footage shows at least a dozen masked individuals outside a large shed, hurling stones and attacking a man on his knees. It describes him taking blows from multiple attackers — kicked and beaten with clubs— until he falls over. He’s lucky to have survived since it took over an hour for anyone to even attempt to stop it.

That “over an hour” matters.

Because an hour in a beating is not “slow response.” It is permission by delay.

An hour is long enough for a man’s arm to be broken.
An hour is long enough for cars to be torched.
An hour is long enough for a community to learn, again, that nobody is coming to save them.

And I need you to notice the masks.

Masking isn’t just cowardice. It’s strategy. It’s the knowledge that the system protects you. It’s the confidence that you can commit violence and melt away, because the occupying power does not treat you like a threat — it treats you like a political asset.

And it has been escalating for years — especially as the genocide in Gaza has pushed into its third year. The world’s attention gets dragged to Gaza’s rubble, and the West Bank gets carved up olive grove by olive grove, road by road, home by home, elder by elder.

I want to say something plainly that many people still refuse to accept:

Settler violence is not a “side issue.” It is the tool.

It is how land gets emptied.
It is how fear becomes policy.
It is how families decide it’s safer to leave than to be next.

An occupying power is the military authority that controls a territory it does not lawfully own — and under international law, an occupying power has a duty to protect the civilians living under its control.

That is why this attack is not just “sad.”

It’s illegal.

Under the Fourth Geneva Convention, the occupying power is required to maintain public order and safety and protect the civilian population. When settlers are allowed to beat a man on camera, torch cars, hurl stones, and terrorize a community for an hour before being dispersed, that is not “public order.” That is a controlled environment of intimidation.

And it doesn’t end when the video ends.

Because for the elder who was beaten, the fear doesn’t stop at the edge of the frame. For his family, the fear comes home and sits down at the table. For every elder in that region, the message is received: you are not safe, even at your age, even in your weakness, even in your dignity.

As Muslims, we are taught something very simple that many non-Muslims also recognize as moral truth: elders are to be honored, protected, and treated with gentleness. In Islam, disrespecting elders is not just rude — it is spiritual ugliness. And when I watch masked men beating an elder who is bent over and defenseless, what I see is not just violence.

I see moral collapse.

These attacks are not about “security.”
They are about domination.
They are about humiliation.
They are about control.

They are about teaching Palestinians that their bodies can be treated like obstacles.

And what makes this even more obscene is how predictable the pattern is:

A group of masked settlers attacks.
Property is destroyed.
People are injured.
Authorities arrive late.
The system shrugs.
The next attack comes.

In November 2025, dozens of settlers attacked the same area, vandalizing property and injuring Palestinians. That’s the point: this isn’t random. This is repeated.

This is what ethnic cleansing looks like when it’s done in slow motion: not always a single mass expulsion in one day, but a steady campaign of terror that makes normal life impossible.
