Four Chicago police officers were fired for attempting to cover up the murder of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald by Officer Jason Van Dyke in 2014. None of the officers disciplined are ranked higher than sergeant. The Chicago Police Board voted on July 18 to fire Sergeant Stephen Franko and officers Janet Mondragon, Daphne Sebastian, and Ricardo Viramontes, effective immediately.
