It’s here. After more than a year of campaigning, America has finally made it to Election Day 2020. As voters throughout the country gear up to cast their ballots, the editorial team at The North Star is ready to provide minute-to-minute coverage, live interviews and action steps for one of the most important elections in our nation’s history.
More than 95 million Americans cast their ballots during early voting, shattering the pre-election numbers cast in the 2016 election. Voting experts expect voter turnout to shatter previous records.
Since millions of Americans cast their votes using mail-in ballots this year, experts estimate severe delays for the final results. In fact, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the delays caused at the U.S. Postal Service, it’s unlikely we’ll know the results of the presidential election on Tuesday night.
Whether President Donald Trump opts to declare premature victory or not on Tuesday, The North Star is committed to bringing you the most accurate results this election season.
How do we plan to do that? Our team will be providing all-day coverage in two ways tomorrow.
Our editorial team will bring the latest news, polling results and more as part of our all-day live blog. We’ll kick off coverage at 8:30 a.m. EST and continue bringing you the latest updates until 3 a.m. EST on Wednesday.
The North Star’s editorial team will only report on the election results being tallied and projected by The Associated Press. The team has opted to rely on the AP due to its exceptional record of accuracy and caution.
The live blog team will provide information on the presidential election, voting across the U.S., interviews with experts and first time voters, updates on key progressive candidates and information regarding important ballot measures being voted on in a number of states.
Coverage will be led by Associate Editor Maria Elena Perez, Senior Writer Nikki Rojas and Gen Z Correspondent Kendi K.
You can catch up on the editorial team’s pre-election live blog here.
