The new nonprofit, which provides furniture for homeless families, hoped to service 400 families in their first year and have reached 600 with four months to go. 1. I have been a volunteer at my local “furniture bank” called Household Goods of Acton MA (https://householdgoods.org) for 15 years. We have over 800 volunteers. If you need any help or advice of any kind, please feel free to contact us. We have a notebook by the door for our guests to share their feelings about their visit. Their words of gratitude are heart warming. There is endless need, and by the same token so MUCH in this country that needs recycling – a perfect arrangement. Coming up in the next week we will be going to Boston College to collect all of the stuff the students leave at the end of the year. Such a blessing – so much of it used to go to the dump – perfectly wonderful – sometimes new things. Best of luck in your new venture. May you grow and prosper in your outreach to the poor.

  2. Great job Chicago! I am the Furniture Program Director at For Goodness Sake in Plainville CT. We also help the formerly homeless furnish their first homes. Please see our website forgoodnessake.org and hopefully we can share ideas for growth! Peace!
