The US Department of Justice (DOJ) explained in a 56-page letter on April 2 that the state of Alabama routinely violates the Eighth Amendment of the US Constitution by failing to protect prisoners from violence and sexual abuse. I find it concerning, yet not surprising, that all these administrators within the prison system all get to keep their jobs without even so much as a slap on the wrist! I also wonder what the hell is wrong that the DOJ found all this terrible evidence yet they, “have great confidence in the State of Alabama’s resolve to correct the prison system’s problems.” I’m sorry but that just doesn’t line up logically for me. I’m very interested to see what (if any) changes are made and how long it takes.
